Powerful songs for community music making.

This is my first list of over 150 songs that are easy to learn and jam on. There are many more and with your help we will create a list of 1000's of songs!!!

Songs that work best for the Community Music Circle format have 2-4 main chords and patterns that repeat throughout the song. Folks should be able to learn the song with 2 minutes of instruction!

I've added another 50 or so songs. If anybody has a song that works for our format please let us know! Barry just sent a link to this 2 chord wonder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddUmqbUexbE&feature=related.

I discovered a new song. It's by Warren Zevon and it's mostly 3 chords - it's "Keep Me in Your Heart for Awhile". G/Gmaj7/Cmaj7. The bridge only happens once and the musilitator could play while the others rested.
I heard this song on the radio and shooore enough it's a 3 chorder - "Bang a Gong" by Marc Bolan and T-Rex

A/E/G
I saw Furthur at Bethel Woods.  They played a terrific 4 chord song - The Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion.  We played it last night and it was FUN!!!  Check it out at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgbRHXlCGdA

I am cribbing this list for my acoustic jam which could use some easy rock tunes.  We had a wonderful   young drummer show up last time who had no drums but did a great job on his thighs!  I loaned him my cajon (made from an old chicken house) and I'd like to have something familiar for him.

We sing/play off of Rise up Singing and song sheets people bring.  I've found it better to avoid F and other barred chords.

Hi JWW,

I'm so glad you found us.  I started the site as a public music making service.  Feel free to set up your own group's page - you should be able to use this site to communicate w/ your members.

I am happy you are using the list of songs - if you discover any that work please post on the site!  The more I play the more terrific playable songs I discover!

My great challenge is to promote this idea of recreational music making in this Community Music Circle way.  It is very clear to me how it works:  easy songs, gentle facilitation, and people.  If you have any idea how we can spread the word please let me know.

Peace,

Pete
