Event Description

Dear CMC Members,

The East Haddam Land Trust is hosting a musical event to raise money to build a bridge over the 8Mile River to help complete the new 10 mile, multi-town, Richard Goodwin Trail. We also hope to sign-up new members to the EHLT.  The event will be held on the lawn of The Goodspeed on June 15, from 6:30-10.

The format of this musical event will be a "Pick-Up Band Jamboree" or PUB JAM for short. I hope there will be more of these PUB JAMS in the future.  A PUB JAM is a more organized version of a Community Music Circle.

Each PUB will be comprised of a PUB captain and randomly assigned pre-registered musicians. Each PUB will have about 25 minutes to play with 10 minutes to change between PUBs. The PUB captain will propose and submit 4-5 easily learned songs. (community music circle type songs:  2-4 chords with space to jam).

For example, if I were to be a PUB captain, I would select Franklin's Tower. I would need to be prepared to sing the song,  show the chords, demonstrate the rhythm,  arrange lead breaks, start and end the song.

If you would like to play, please email me the following info at pubjammusic@gmail.com  Please put "June 15" in the memo line:

1. what instrument (s) you would like to play?

2. do you want to take a lead break or do you see yourself  primarily as rhythm?

3. would you be willing to be a "captain" this time or in a future event?

Your emailed responses  will help me create a list of available musicians to place into PUBS the night of the event.  That's right - we will know our PUB's members moments before we play our first song.

This format puts a little more organization on the community music circle concept but retains the spontaneity, energy, and joy of making music in the moment.

I, with some help, will set up most of the staging. We will have a community PA system (thanks Rob Bradway!!), drum set, bass amp, percussion toys, guitar amps, and keyboards.

The size of the audience is unknown. We will invite the 300+ members of the Land Trust and hopefully others will show up as well. But who knows?

Please email me...remember...the music plays the band...

Pete
